RegICON 2025 is a pioneering regional conference that brings into focus the rich linguistic and cultural ecosystems of East & North East India and Southeast Asia—two geographies with deep historical, civilizational, and linguistic continuities. Hosted in Guwahati, a strategic cultural and academic hub of Northeast India, the conference focusses on the importance of regional collaboration in advancing Natural Language Processing (NLP) for low-resource, morphologically rich, and script-diverse languages
From the Indo-Aryan, Tibeto-Burman, and Austroasiatic languages of East and Northeast India to the Tai-Kadai, Austronesian, and Mon-Khmer languages of Southeast Asia, the regions represented at RegICON 2025 face shared challenges in script diversity, agglutinative structures, tone sensitivity, code-switching, and the urgent need for digital language processing, application/technology development, and preservation.
The conference envisions a vibrant platform for scholars, technologists, computational linguists, and practitioners to come together and explore the diverse aspects of NLP, including multilingual NLP, in the era of AI.
By promoting shared resource development and inclusive research, RegICON 2025 aims to create a sustainable bridge across borders—transforming linguistic diversity into a collective strength for advancing AI-driven language technologies in this crucial part of the world.
RegICON 2025 is organized by Department of Information Technology, Gauhati University, Guwahati, Assam, India, jointly with Assam Skill University, Guwahati, Assam India, in collaboration with NLP Association of India (NLPAI).
The primary sponsor is the Centre for Research and Development in Digital Enablement of Local Languages (CRD-DELL), Department of Information Technology, Gauhati University.
